The WFMU-hosted Free Music Archive has officially come to life, albeit in a beta form. The FMA was created as an outlet to store music made freely available by the artist – not unlike the voluminous archive.org. A good portion of the music will be released under Creative Commons licensing. The archive has already uploaded thousands of mp3’s from artists’ out-of-print back catalogues, WFMU-sponsored live sessions, works-in-progress, etc. The site is currently a little jumbled and hard to navigate but the developers are working on this as we speak. Try using the genre/sub-genre search tab at the top of the homepage to navigate towards mp3 heaven. Feel free to become an official member, roam around the site or if you are a musician seeking an outlet for your music, donate! My favorite section on the site thus far? Phoning It In.

Recently I raved about the two This Mess Is Mine albums released on the Aerotone netlabel. Well the label has just dropped another worthwhile effort on us by way of Germany’s Anois. Tree House Whispers is yet another mellow, reflective cog in the Aerotone wheel. The daydream-y instrumentation, hushed vocal sighing and bare-bones production are going to help you drift into the ether, where the shitty day you had at work is no longer relevant. HIGHLY recommended with a decent set of headphones! Also, if you sign up for their monthly newsletter they will send you a link for a bonus Anois EP.
