My contribution to the St. Patty’s Day hoopla comes by way of Ireland’s So Cow (or Brian Kelly as he is known to his mother). He’s released an EP’s worth of covers to help satiate fans’ hunger until the release of his Meaningless Friendly LP (in stores as of now). Brian compares himself to TV Personalities and The Clean and I approve of that description and add Wedding Present into that blend as well. I absolutely love this mix of edgy, jangly guitar sounds and mod-style vocal delivery. I’m not familiar with all the covers recorded for In The Sitting Room but there’s much to be loved – especially the excellent Soft Boys and Go-Betweens covers (see below). Grab the EP here and here’s to hoping Brian’s sound remains the same on the forthcoming LP. Shout out to Weekly Tape Deck for the heads-up!
On a completely different note – we will be slowly adding imbedded mp3 players to all the previous mixtape installments so that the mixes can be streamed at any time for those moments when downloading zip files is not convenient (like at work, when you should be, um, working?). For example, the February mix already has a player loaded. Scroll to the bottom of the page for streaming access. For completists and archivists – rest easy, the links for direct zip file download will remain intact, at least for the forseeable future. You may have also noticed the imbedded players on the Morning Tape series this past Monday. We’d like to thank the handful of readers who hollered for me to provide a one-click listening experience – we’ll continue to roll with it. Contrary to popular belief, BTID handles constructive criticism and suggestions with a smile. Please feel free to blast us with it any time using these methods of communication.
