James
Orr Complex
chori's
Bundle (2003, Rock
Action)(4.6/5)
chori's
Bundle mixes classic Nick Drake vocalisms equally with fresh
fingerpickin' innovation to allow for one of the warmest, most interesting
guitar-oriented folk albums in recent memory. Orr's hushed vocals
are sprinkled throughout the album, giving the listener the impression
he is sighing through just another hard day's work. The guitar tone
is impeccably clear. One can easily think they are snuggled up in
front of a fireplace with Mr. Orr himself. This album stands right
up alongside anything Iron & Wine, Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince
and Papa M have ever put out. Given some more time Orr may end up
being mentioned in the same breath as such folk guitar luminaries
as John Fahey and Robbie Basho. The potential is definitely there.
